A new MOONCASTLE staple perfect for the Japanese summer
Low gauge knitwear made with Mino washi paper
Choosing the right materials is important if you want to stay cool in the summer
At MOONCASTLE, we have been proposing ice cotton as a material suitable for the summer, but starting this year, we are introducing a new material that uses 20% Mino Washi paper, silk, and cotton.
We are developing "PAPER SILK KNIT" .
This comfortable summer knit makes use of Japanese technology and gives you a different kind of coolness than ice cotton, so we would like to introduce you to the difference.

Features of Mino Washi PAPER SILK KNIT
PAPER SILK KNIT is made using special yarn that contains 20% Mino washi paper, a traditional craft of Gifu, and is knitted on a 7G knitting machine.
Washi paper has been used for making paper for sliding doors and other items since ancient times, and is characterized by its good breathability and unique dry touch.
The elegant luster of silk and the softness of cotton combine to create a light, smooth feel against the skin.

Differences in gauge create differences in comfort
The fineness of the knit differs between PAPER SILK KNIT (7G) and Ice Cotton (12G).
PAPER SILK has a slightly thicker weave, giving it a three-dimensional look, and even when worn alone it is not see-through and has a strong presence.
Ice cotton has a fine, smooth weave and is thin. It can be worn as a jacket or as an inner layer, just like a shirt.

A versatile thread that combines the dry properties of washi paper, the elegant luster of silk, and the strength of cotton.
It is loosely knitted with 7G to create a lightweight feel.
When compared when worn, it has a better drape and feels better against the skin than ice cotton.
We hope you can feel the difference in the texture of the materials.
It has good breathability and is also comfortable against the skin.
"I'm wearing it, but it feels like I'm not wearing it."
This may be a bit of an exaggeration, but
This is how I felt when I wore it, and even in the middle of summer I was able to stay extremely comfortable. PAPER SILK has a different kind of coolness to it than Ice Cotton, which has a cooling sensation when you touch it.
Differences in specifications

In addition to the material, there is one change in the specifications; the neck rib is now knitted in a 1x1 pattern.
The tight neck rib gives the impression of a tight fit, and serves to nicely tighten up the rough look of the low gauge.
Are you concerned about the transparency?

One thing I worry about with low gauge knits is whether or not the bare skin will show through. If you shine a light on them and take a photo against a white background, they will look like this...

Because the thread itself is thick, it is almost opaque when worn, so you can wear it without worry!
You can feel the difference even with your usual combination.
Changing the material and knit pattern not only affects the comfort but also the look.
We have prepared photos of the items being worn in each color, so we hope this will be helpful.
